WOW~hopefully nobody is depending on me for any life-or-death bargains!!! Not sure why I am so lax about this blog...I LOVE to brag about the deals I find, I guess just sitting down and actually doing it is a problem for me!
Last week was a GREAT week for bargains. Got stocked up on chocolate(all sorts of Hershey's) that were clearanced at Target for 70% off.(my boys LOVE these, but at usual price of $3.59, rarely get them) I am pretty sure my family won't care if their Hershey's Drops have an Easter bunny on them. Also picked up some solid Hershey bunnies~again, nobody in this house will care, as long as it's candy! Most of it is hidden, some in the freezer, so I can bring it out for the next few months!
I think the best deal at Target was the spiral half hams for $1.29/lb. I just paid $1.99/lb before Easter and didn't think that was bad, so needless to say, I got a couple and then went back the next day and got another-had to see how much room I had in the freezer :) That is cheaper than hamburger per pound!!!!
Great deal at Dahl's~~Capri Sun juice boxes marked down to .99~used a couple of buy 3 get one free coupons=8 boxes of 10 juice boxes for $5.94! They also had some Minnie Mouse sugar cookie dough marked down to $1.25~with 2 coupons of $1.10 each=2 boxes for .30~SCORE! I had already picked some up at HyVee for .50/box which they had rung up at regular price, so those were totally FREE! And a very nice girl at the courtesy counter, too~I didn't realize you got them for free if they rang up wrong~I had just gone over to say I didn't want them for $2.99(never in a million years would I pay that for cookie dough!)
So, yes, I am still out there scouting out the bargains...we will see if I can do better about letting you know about them!!
BargainHunting in Ames
This is a blog about saving money in the real world~I don't have lots of time to scour every store, but I will post my savings at the stores I normally shop at and hopefully help you save some money, too!

Target: Lots of HP printer ink is on sale and if you buy a double pack, you get a $10 gift card. For our printer, the pack was $26.19, so subtract the gift card and ONLY $16.19 for a double pack of ink!
Kellogg's NutriGrain bars, buy 3 for $2.50/ea...get onefree. There were coupons in the paper a couple of weeks ago for $1.00/2 and they will let you use 2...so $5.50 for 4 boxes!!!!
Walgreens : 4 bags of M&Ms for $10 with a $5 register reward, plus use 2 $1 off coupons for a net total of 4 bags for .75 each.
Those are the best deals I could find!!! ButI thought they were pretty darn good!!!

Results from my morning post....
Woo-Hoo~got some good deals today!
I went to Target and found Velveeta Shells and Cheese(2%variety)for only $1.00/box! Normally $2.49! We haven't tried this kind yet, my boys LOVE the regular kind, so we shall see!
Then to Walgreens; here's what I bought:
Brita slim pitcher, 3 packages paper plates, Viva 6-roll pack, 2 18oz Skippy peanut butter, 3 Scotch mailing envelopes(I sell on e-bay and use PaperbackSwap-always get these when on sale!)2 large pkg peanut butter M&Ms, 4 full-size packages Keebler cookies and a 8x10 collage picture from a free offer earlier this week. Total before coupons $63.43, total I paid $30.49 plus I got $6.00 in register rewards for next time, so net out-of-pocket was $24.49. Pretty good trip :)
Like I have said before, I am not an Extreme Couponer, just a normal person with a normal life, trying to find some great deals!
Hope you can find some, too!

Week-end finds!
Let's see how this works out....I will blog about the deals I found in the paper, before I go and get them!!
Yesterday was not a good bargain-hunting day~I went to Fareway and only used 2 coupons(VERY unusual for me!) I did only get the necessities and on-sale items, so I stayed under my weekly grocery budget of $100, but bummed I only used $2.00 worth of coupons! My trip to Target was uneventful, too, as I had to buy a calculator for Zach~YIKES~we never had calculators worth $125!!! Thankfully, it was on sale for $95 and using my Target debit card, I saved another 5%, but STILL!! On a side note, getting a Target debit card (or credit) is a VERY easy way to save 5% on EVERY Target purchase~I highly recommend it! Plus, take your own bags in and get 5 cents off for each one used.
So today, in the Walgreen's ad, you can find some deals:
1) Viva paper towels 6 pack on sale for 5.99, less $1.00 in store coupon and if you get All-You magazine, there is a $2.00 coupon in this month's issue and you can use both in one transaction .
2)There are also quite a few items with register rewards, so it makes them very cheap~even better if you have coupons for these items: Dial NutriSkin body Wash $3.99 w/$3.00 reward, Colgate Sensitive toothbrush or toothpaste $4.99 w/$.400 reward, Cheese-its, Keebler cookies, rice krispie treats on sale for 4/$10 with $5.00 reward, plus use 2 Keebler coupons for last week ($1.00 off 2) =4/$3.00, M&M's 2/$5.00,with $1.00 reward minus coupon from today's paper($1.50)=2/$2.50
TARGET :
Only great deal for me this week-Buy 3 Nabisco multi-packs or Capri sun 20 packsfor $3.99, get one free-Great time to stock up for all those football,/soccer snacks!
That's all for today~after I take Zach to work, I will go to these stores and see if everything rings up like it should! And maybe find some other GREAT deals to tell you about!

Time to get back into a routine.....
No~I haven't disappeared, but the last 6 weeks has not been much fun~I have seen 3 different dentists and STILL not taken care of! So...it's been hard to get into finding bargains with my mouth constantly hurting!
BUT~I have been looking at this week's grocery ads and here are some of the AMES area bargains I have found:
DAHLS:(still not my top store, but they do have a few things!) A tip~if you go around 9:00 in the morning, you will see a lot of meat that has just been marked down, I routinely buy steaks for about $1.00/each and throw them in the freezer! I wish they would mark down hamburger, but so far, I haven't been able to find any! In their ad this week: NOT MUCH! On Friday 8/19, they have 13% off everything in the meat department, so look through your coupons for lunchmeat, hotdogs and their marked down meat!
HY-VEE: They have a 2-day sale going on through today~bananas 39 cents/lb, their brand of cottage cheese@.99 (not AE, darn it!) Also, 10% off all frozen food, which includes sale items. Theyhave their brandof steam fresh veggies for .69/bag and we like these just as much as
Birdseye and Green Giant~so thats a really good deal!
FAREWAY: Not any spectacular deals this week, kinda bummed!!
I will get on this and get Walgreen's dealsposted for next week as soon as I can~they are usually full of them!!!
Happy shopping!!

I hate Dahl's, but...............
Still not a fan of Dahl's, but I do like their ad prices on some things! I will NEVER buy regular price stuff there, but check out these deals at the Ames Dahl's store:
**Hormel pork tenderloins, you know those 1 pound loins that come wrapped in plastic and have different flavors? Well, I was in Dahl's last night and they have a TON of them marked down to $3.99 because they are nearing their "sell by" date. Stock up and take them home and freeze them~they are usually $8.99 a piece!!!
**Another fantastic deal they have going on is: Buy 2 frozen Bertolli meals for $10 and get all of the following FREE: bakery Italian bread, classic Dole saladmix, 16 oz Wishbone dressing, 2 liter of any Coke product and a off brand container of ice cream! Seriously, you pay $10 and get $11.23 worth of free food! Awesome deal!!!!
***A mention of a couple of good deals at Fareway, too~~~10 packs of Hi-C juice boxes are only 99 cents~no coupon needed and no limit! AE yogurt is only 39 cents~great time to stock up~~most of the "use-by" dates are well into July! Fast Fixin' Chicken products are on sale for $3.99 and most of them have a sticker on the outside that states "free Redbox movie code inside"~I love free movies!
That's all the deals from last night~stay tuned for some more great Ames area deals!!!!

Walgreen's, Dahl's(not impressed), Extreme Couponing
I really need to get better at this blogging!
Great deals at Walgreens this past week-end, not so great at other stores! I was so excited that Dahl's opened up in the former Cub Foods building, that is until I actually went in there :(
VERY EXPENSIVE!!! That's not to say I won't ever shop there~but it will definitely be an ad-only shopping trip~~so disappointed in their prices!
My good news was they had Oscar Mayer hotdogs on sale for .99/pack. With three $1.00 off of two coupons, I got 6 packages for only $2.94~~only .49 per package. I would have gotten more if I would have had more coupons!
My best deal by far this week-end was at Walgreen's: I had a BOGO free coupon for Suave lotion which was on sale for $3.00 and a FREE coupon for any Suave Professional product. Plus if you bought $10.00 worth of Suave products, you got a $3.00 register reward for next time! Asluck would have it, all of my prices before coupons counted, so I ended up actually paying $3.00 for everything, but I got back a $3.00 register reward so total was ZERO!! I LOVE it when that happens. They also had Reynold's wrap on sale for $1.99 for the 75ft roll(which is a great price), but with $1.00 off coupon it made it only .99~which is way cheaper than the cheap kind I usually buy!
Now my rant about the TLC show "Extreme Couponing". I think the show is very inspiring to people, I know I watch in awe of their savings, but, really, who needs 120 bottles of hand soap? One lady said they were "running low" on hand soap, they only had 20 at home(only 20? I am usually lucky if I have one at every sink!) so they needed to buy 100 more?!?! They had coupons for all of them and it made them all free, but still......maybe if they said they were going to donate most of them to places that needed them I would like it better! I just don't see the need to clear off the shelves of any store just so you can have a garage full of stuff you probably are never going to use! I also would love to get my hands on all the coupons these people have, but I am NOT going dumpster diving for them!!!(on a side note, I would take any coupons people aren't going to use..hint, hint!)
So, you will not get any EXTREME couponing ideas from me..just practical ones that you could use around here. Now that I watch a lot of teacher's kids, my grocery budget has been cut in half(along with other things) so I will be scoping out bargains all over the place and will be happy to share with you!
My plan this summer is to update this blog at least once a week, if not more often to let you know where the best deals are!!! Let me knowhow I am doing and what you'd like to read about!!!
